Stretch Your Imagination
June/July 2005
The standing shoulder extension stretch will compensate for forward reaching.
Stand facing a wall, with your toes about 18” from the wall. Place your hand on the wall, directly in
front of you, at about ear level (your elbow will be bent). Slide your hand up the wall until your arm is
straight. Gently lean in toward the wall until you feel a slight stretch on the front side of the underarm.
Hold in this position for 2 deep breaths. Do not bounce or rock forward and back. The only motion
should come from your breathing. Relax and slide your arm down to your side. Repeat with the other
arm.
